Passaic, NJ – April 19, 2004 – For a Los Angeles neighborhood that prides itself on design, the Stephen Ehrlich Architects chose two Bendheim U-Profile glasses for the new Westwood Branch Library. The eye-catching façade features clear and textured SGCC certified tempered glass channels almost 20′ tall.
The $6 million Westwood library, one of 36 libraries benefiting from a 1998 Library Bond Program, is among the last to be completed. The 12,500-square foot project, located at Wilshire Boulevard and the Freeway, was constructed on time within the confines of some of the most stringent building codes in the country. The area’s seismic activity requirements are managed through the performance of Bendheim’s patented V60 Frame System.
This is the first application of Bendheim Wall Systems’ LINIT U-Profile glass, installed by Harris Glass, in a Los Angeles public sector project. Recent projects awarded to Bendheim Wall Systems, Inc. include the Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and the Steven Holl/Rogers Marvel designed Pratt Institute-Higgins Hall in New York. The Bendheim LINIT U-Profile glass system eliminates the need for most vertical and intermediate horizontal framing members. The translucent, structural glazing system meets or exceeds most project design criteria providing light, function, and clean design.
